The Tiny Mess

Stay Wild

Maddie Gordon was one of the contributors to Stay Wild's first issue, so when we heard she was working to kickstart a cooking book called The Tiny Mess with some other fine folks we pitched in and pre-ordered some books. You should pitch in too >>>

Maddies says the book will have, "plenty of wild and foraged recipes including mallow dolma, rabbit and nopal cactus tacos, salmon with douglas fir rub and an elderberry-Oregon grape sauce, nettle and lemon balm pesto over maple-roasted parsnips and kelp and cucumber salad to name a few."

Skateboarding in Nature

Stay Wild

For the past decade, Elemental Awareness has sent groups of kids from underserved communities to Element Skate Camp. They believe that Skate Camp that anyone can benefit from the experience of skateboarding in nature.

The video below focuses on a group of kids brought up from South Central Los Angeles for a week to skate camp. Some of them had never been outside of LA, let alone seen giant redwoods, or the Milky Way.

Special thanks to the New Balance Foundation for helping make this trip a reality, and for their continued support.

Jolly Daze Gift Guide // Week 4

Stay Wild

The Jollydaze are here! It's the last freaking second! Don't PANIC, we're here to help with the Gift Giving. Here are a couple ideas of goods we think are good to gift.

See See Ninja Suit // myairblaster.com

I don’t wear underwear unless it’s really cold. I also don’t get a bag when I get my burrito to go. I tell them to just put that warm little baby into the palm of my hand because I don’t have time to dick around. I need to keep moving. Pretty sure this See See motorcycle ninja suit feels the same way about burritos to go.

Wine // unionwinecompany.com

Wine in a can? Heck yes! It's easy to hike with and might be the finest wine made in Oregon. Grab yourself a can while your at it!

Ginew // ginewusa.com

I’ve been bike commuting in this American-made Selvedge Denim Rider jacket for about a month now and the it has fully formed to my body. It’s starting to steer the bike. It aims the handlebars toward forest trails, waterfalls, and berry patches. $315

Pickles

Look. You’re shopping at the last second, so just be real about it. Everyone loves pickles. Go to any grocery store and buy a jar of basic pickles. Feeling fancy? Fuck it, get the expensive kind!

Slightly Choppy // shop-slightlychoppy.com

There are not enough flags to fly for the places we love. Countries, states, and cities have flags. Now surf breaks do too!

Stay Wild // Winter 2017

Stay Wild

Our 12th issue comes out in the new year. It's the best one we've made yet!

This new issue marks a new direction for us. The printed magazine is no longer free and will now retail for $4.20.

Why?

Good question. We have three reasons.

Growth

“Free” oddly limits where we can share the magazine. As a free magazine we don’t give retail shops incentive to place this beautiful thing in easy to find places. As a “for sale” magazine we’ll be in the rack at the grocery store and we’ll be in the book store window in addition to our current locations in awesome independent shops.

Sustainability

We will be more efficient with natural resources by printing the exact amount of magazines people are buying rather than printing as many as we can. We will also be more financially sustainable and able to pay for work that’s currently being done by volunteers.

Support

We believe people will be happy to pay $4.20 for future issues of Stay Wild. Our solid fan base is made of people like you. People who buy things everyday knowing it’s a form of voting to fund the ideas we believe in. We also believe in the shops that stock us and when people buy our magazine from them we will help cover their business costs.
